Lysenko seemed to be in deep trouble in 1948 when Andrei Zhdanov's son Yuri, the Central Committee official in charge of science (and the husband of Stalin's daughter) came out against him.

(The younger Zhdanov had an unusually good knowledge of science for a party bureaucrat, and was persuaded by several Soviet biologists that Lysenko was harming Soviet science.)

But, alas, Lysenko sent a letter to Stalin playing brilliantly to all the old dictator's prejudices, and emerged more powerful than ever.

So WI Lysenko was purged by Stalin? Let's say Lysenko's letter never arrives to him. Will this influence the Virgin lands Campaign?
