Has anyone thoughts on the potential of two or three divisions of German cavalry in the Kaiserschlacht?
I'll note before anyone else does the three problems mentioned in the original thread. First, barbed wire - it's an effective deterrent to any sort of cavalry charge on a defended position. Second, machine guns are bloody effective when properly deployed. As an aside to that, do remember that cavalry can use their speed to over-run enemy forces before they can deploy - as demonstrated by BEF cavalry later on in '18 IOTL.* Third, fodder is an important question given the level of rationing in Germany. IOTL it consumed a substantial amount of resources, but it should be noted this was because in this period one needs a lot of horses for drawing artillery, bringing up supplies and so on.
A fourth problem is having someone high up in the German Army decide to employ cavalry. That strikes me as the major obstacle. But if there's anyone who can think things up, it'll surely be someone here! So thinking caps on, chaps!
