Lovecraft assassinates Coolidge!

Here's a small challenge I thought up, what if H.P. Lovecraft never succeeded as a writer, became a bitter loner and eventually tried to assassinate the President, let's say Calvin Coolidge.

The things I see happening is that H.P. Lovecraft is now called Howard Philips Lovecraft. Also, from what I can see from this is we get a lot of sympathy because Coolidge seems to have been a pretty popular president.

For reasons to kill Coolidge, Lovecraft will probably work on Coolidge working for civil rights and granting rights to African Americans and Citizenship to Natives. Also, he's just bitter and crazy.

And now for the really fun part, Conspiracy theories! If anyone wants to come up with a conspiracy theory that would be awesome.

Why Lovecraft?

And btw, Ian the Administrator doesn't think highly of conspiracy theories. To say the least.

No reason why I choose Lovecraft, it's just an idea I had that I'd work into a novel or something. Coolidge was the one I choose at random to be honest.

And sorry. we don't need to work in conspiracy theories.

Well, if Lovecraft is crazy, coupled with the fact that he's just a random guy, he'll probably botch up any attempt to kill the president. There's likely a few people in the US who would like to assassinate Obama, Bush, or any president, really, but they can't, because they don't have what's necessary.

Okay, attempted assassination works too. I don't think Lovecraft would be that good with a gun anyways. How far do you think he could have gotten?

Well, I don't know if Coolidge made any big public appearances, but if he did Lovecraft could try his luck there. Of course, he'd either get gunned down by the secret service or arrested, and remembered only as some nutcase who tried to kill the POTUS.

Alright, let's go with that.

Actually, for fun let's say the scenario goes like this.

Lovecraft is able to make it to a public appearance of Coolidge, is able to get close enough time to Coolidge to shoot him, but when he pulls the gun out he realizes it's jammed or something as he's headbutted by the secret service. Lovecraft is then taken into custody.

So how do you think the trial goes?

He just tried to kill the president. He gets executed, most likely.

Okay, Lovecraft is executed. That chapter ends.

So what do you think happens now that we have pretty much annihilated the Cthulhu Mythos from the timeline?

Alright, Lovecraft goes to prison, which would probably be like executing him considering his health problems and the fact his uptight New England family will not want to even acknowledge his existence.

Would Lovecraft survive in prison, or would he basically get sodomized and die of some kind of disease? Would his lawyer have gotten him into a jail were he wouldn't have to deal with everyone being able to beat the shit out of him?

Where is Lovecraft being held anyways?

It is hard to answer such detailed questions. You'd really need to find an public appearance by Coolidge and go though the attempt. It is very circumstantial.

Welcome to the board.

Uh, no. In fact, the opposite may occur... Lovecraft may get executed...but if he wrote any weird stories, they get picked up on by the people like those who idolize Charles Manson..and Lovecraft fans get a lot darker than now...

That's what I was thinking off that, but I was thinking more in terms of more mainstream horror. Like, I'm pretty sure Call of Cthulhu the RPG isn't going to exist, and alot of geek humor about Cthulhu isn't going to exist be in bad taste and likely not as prominent. I can see someone writing somekind of novel that would involve the Cthulhu Mythos, likely involving Lovecraft's attempted assassination, but that would probably be it.

How about sometime in the 1988, Don Dellio writes a novel about the assassination called "Cancer." It's later made into a movie in 1995 staring Crispin Glover.
