Louis XVI bugs out

This was inspired by the discussion here:

The idea is that something like the Flight to Varennes is done about the same time, but done much differently. Louis XVI just grab what valuables (things that can be sold for cash) they can, get in separate carriages, and dash for the Austrian Netherlands border. They almost certainly would have gotten across. Other aristocrats, granted they had less scrutiny, did escape. This included the king's brothers.

The problem with this is that it requires a personality transplant for at least Louis XVI. A suggested POD in the other thread is a much worse situation for the royal family at the time. Or maybe they have an unusually strong willed and clear headed courtier who is able to get his point across just this once.

And then what happens? How much difference does it make whether they take the children?
 
If they take their children then they'd be more secure in the sense that their heirs can't be used by the rebels
