Lord of the Rings (TV series)

Let's say some time in the future, after The Hobbit movie comes out, someone decides to (re)make LOTR into a full-fledged TV series. Now, suppose you're in charge of this project, who would you cast, and what changes (in any) would you make?

Let the journey begin.

P.S. You may include Quenta Silmarillion and The Hobbit if you wish. :)

Well, Hobit would serve as a nice pilot episode. If I was making it, I would do a three season, 10 episodes format. I would refrain from using Quenta Silmarilion as a major plot inclusion. Maybe, just maybe, as flashbacks by some of the elven lords (Elrond or Galadriel) who might still remember the events.

To be honest, I would aim to include the original cast as in the movie version. That being impossible, well, I would look around and pick a crew from major series to cast into this.

Obviously, some things from the book would need some work and expansion. I do not have the books at hand right now, but I recon each chapter could be made an episode.

¡ Hi !:

Only for fun:

LOTR Reloaded:eek:.

Director: Quentin Tarantino:D.

Scrip written by: Michael Moore and Rush Linbaugh:eek: (both kill each other after both ended writting the script:rolleyes: ).

Gandalf: Steven Seagal:eek:.

Frodo: Chuck Norris:D.

Arwen: Tara Reid:rolleyes:.

Golum: Charlie Sheen:cool:.

Filmed: bollywood´s studios, India:D.

Good luck:cool:.

Actually, I think Charlie Sheen would work as one of the hobbits (maybe Pippin: "As a matter of fact, I DO know the quality of every tavern in the Shire - and don't Bogart that 'pipeweed' and pass the mushrooms!").

And John Cryer could do a decent Gollum. If you wanted the poor guy to break out of the typecasting mold, how would you cast him? Gildor maybe?

Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh as a couple of old fat bickering hobbits at the Prancing Pony.

Pamela Anderson as Goldberry. (Seriously, I always saw her as a well endowed hippy chick, even before "Hashberry.")

OK, are you looking for a multi season mini series (like B5 or nuBSG) or a show that will run for as long as they can match sponsors to eyeballs?

I'd nominate Jamie Alexander (Sif) as Arwen.

Multi-season, sort of like Prison Break.

We'd get The Hobbit as S1 (10 episodes or so), Fellowship of the Ring as S2 (20 episodes or so), Two Towers as S3 (25 episodes or so), Return of the King as S4 (30 episodes or so).

Another way to do this is NOT to follow the Fellowship itself but other places in ME. Maybe have it centered in Minas Tirith. That way you don't have the expense of the huge battle scenes and more importantly can milk the series as long as it lasts. If the public is willing to watch a dozen seasons so much the better. The producer, the actors, the writers and the network will simply cash in year after year.

Multiple story lines, perhaps? One focused on Halbarad, the Dunedein Ranger; and another on [insert Gondorian name], an Ithilien Ranger? Their stories can converge on the Pelennor Fields. :)

You could do that. I wouldn't do Pelennor fields though as that would be expensive. TV networks don't want to spend that kind of cash.

The Siege of Minas Tirith then?

Even extras are expensive, think small. A few dozen men, there is no need for them to do any of the key battles at all. Since the focus is away from the Fellowship you don't need the huge, expensive big battles. More on the scale of Amon Sul than Minas Tirith or Helm's Deep.
