Looking for book recommendation on WWI

Like a lot of us I know a lot about WWII or the ACW. I am looking for a recommendation on a good book that would be pretty encompassing on WWI that I could get for my Kindle. I am not a total novice (or I know enough to be dangerous.) But I would like to read something that covers the politics and the battles of WWI. I sort of decided it is my next area of interest.

I recently found out I had a great Grandfather who was an Officer in the Artillerymen in France. He got gassed pretty badly. It turns out he developed Leukemia in the early 20's. No one in my family before or after has had that disease and my Grandmother until her dying day was convinced the gassing in France was the reason. Anyway, it struck a nerve with me to learn more. That and I am sure a lot of Americans would be surprised to know we lost over 100,000 casualties. That and the history of the bonus army etc..

My favorites are Barbara Tuchman's "The Guns of August" and John Keegan's "The First World War". Some people dont like Keegan and find his writing dry. YMMV.

The documentary "The First World War" based on the book by Hew Strachen is absolutely excellent, IMO. Highly recommend watching it. Havent read the book by the author from which it's based though.

Endorse this, first class. The tie-in book is well worth reading; it's a digest of Strachan's The First World War: Volume 1: To Arms, and research notes from the as yet incomplete two subsequent volumes.
Entire series, good quality, on YouTube.
First episode here

Also highly recommended: David Stevenson's 1914-1918: the History of the First World War (US title Cataclysm: the First World War as Political Tragedy)

Both these authors are tres grand fromages in British academia.

The sleepwalkers: how Europe went into war in 1914
If you want to learn about the "groundwork" that led to the war its the perfect book
