Longer lasting Suri empire?

The Suri empire was established by Sher Shah Suri in 1540, covering most of the former Mughal empire. However, once Sher Shah Suri and his son Islam Shah Suri died the empire lacked strong leadership and began to implode, with members of the Suri dynasty vying for control of the throne at Delhi. In addition to this, the defeated Mughal emperor Humayun returned to India with the support of the Persian Safavids, ultimately reconquering his lost territory.

I'm trying to figure out a way for the Suri empire to survive longer. So far I have two main ideas:

-Humayun had to convert to Shi'a Islam in order to gain the support of the Safavid Shah. If he had rejected conversion he wouldn't have the support he needed to reconquer his empire. The Shah might turn him over to his brother Kamran Mirza, or Humayun might stay in exile until his death.

-Islam Shah Suri lives longer, so his son Firuz Shah Suri is older when he becomes Sultan and becomes a strong leader like his father, or is at least able to fight off any other claimants from within the Suri dynasty.

What do you fellows think of these PoDs, are they plausible or not? And what effect might a surviving Suri empire have on history?

Sher Shah Suri was an able general as well as an efficient administrator. In a short span of five years as the ruler of Delhi, he introduced many reforms that were later copied by Akbar and executed more vigorously. Had he not died an accidental death, the Suri Empire would have survived. Then the history of the Mughal Empire which started with Babur in 1526 would have ended with his son in 1540 as the history of a small principality around Delhi! No Akbar, no Jahangir, no Shahjahan, no Aurangzeb and all emperors upto Bahadur Shah Zafar! Also no Taj Mahal, Red Fort and many other monuments. Instead the Suri emperors and their history!
