LitWI: Hemingway Dies Early

(Disclaimer: I frankly have no idea how interested people on this board are in literature, but I know the majority are at least literate. Here's to hoping this WI isn't just interesting to people studying English lit.)

Ernest Hemingway had a tumultuous life. Much of his literature came about via his traveling on various adventures in Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa, and he is now known to have been bipolar.

WI Hemingway somehow dies before he is able to place his imprint upon American letters? It could be contended that the entire face of American literature could change, but what is most likely or most feasible?

I think you'd ease the task if you state when he'd die! I'd guess you'd have a number of different opinions about when he'd place his impring upon American letters (and I'm no student of English/American lit.)
