Little Rock Rednecks

Suppose that when the 101st tries to end segregation, rednecks open fire and lethal wound 35 soldiers. These guys have no authority from the governor to do so. Do we get another civil war (which should last all of seven days tops when it's regular army vs rednecks and National Guard)?

No. Faubus wasn't that stupid. Faubus was out for a political stunt, not full on rebellion.

Very true, but, the proposal does not call for Faubus to be in front of his troops in a Confederate Colonel's uni, waving a sabre, yelling, "Kill them damn Yankees!", rather, like Kent State, someone goes batshit and starts shooting...what happens then?

He orders the State Troopers to break up what has obviously become a riot, all the while posturing and saying, "See, this is why Eisenhower is off his rocker trying to integrate Little Rock." The shooters get charged, and inevitably acquitted. Eisenhowe gets spooked and decides not to press the issue in the future.

Is this in his hands? I didn't say the National Guard (which is under his command) fired, I said random people overeacting did. The training of the military when shot back should be to retaliate...
