POD: Mike Lowry beats Slade Gorton in the 1988 Senate Election. As a result, he is not a candidate for Governor in 1992. Butterflies prevent Brock Adams' sex scandal. Because of this, he is seen as a stronger candidate than OTL and Patty Murray decides to run for Governor instead of Senator (Adams ends up losing to Bonker anyway). I have also included the Senate seats for Washington, since those seats are involved.

Governor of Washington
20. Patty Murray 1993-2001
21. Gary Locke 2001-2009
22. Bob Herbold 2009-Present

United States Senator for Washington (Class I)
Mike Lowry (1989-1995)
Ken Eikenberry (1995-2001)
Maria Cantwell (2001-Present)

United States Senator for Washington (Class III)
Don Bonker (1993-2011)
Edgar Martinez (2011-Present) (Yes, I know he was an Obama donor, but he was a known Republican prior to that, so let's say that butterflies keep him a GOP supporter. Plus, he's the most popular man in the state.)

POD: Watergate burglars get away it in 1972. President Richard Nixon's landslide re-election produces coattails that give Republicans control of the House and Senate.

New Jersey
William Cahill (R): 1970-1976 (1)
Raymond Bateman (R): 1976-1978 (2)
Bill Bradley (D): 1978-1986
James Florio (D): 1986-1990
Thomas Kean (R): 1990-1998
James McGreevey (D): 1998-2006 (3)
Richard Codey (D): 2006-2014

(1) Selected as John Conally's running mate in 1976 and resigned after he was elected Vice President of the US

(2) Bateman was President of the New Jersey State Senate and became Acting Governor (the office of Lt Governor was not created until 2010) but lost in 1977 to retired New York Knicks basketball star Bill Bradley

(3) First openly gay man elected Governor in the United States. McGreevey came out during a televised debate with his Republican opponent, Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler. More conservative than Governor Kean, Schundler had very little support from the outgoing Governor. After leaving office, McGreevey made a shocking announcement that he was converting to the Episcopalian faith and studying for the priesthood.

57. Steny Hoyer: 1977-1987*

60. Al Wynn: 1999-2007
