What if the 22nd amendment never became law? How would this affect the Presidency? Here's how I think the Presidency would've looked without it:

33. Harry S. Truman (Democratic): 1945-1953

34. Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican): 1953-1961

35. John F. Kennedy (Democratic): 1961-1963

36. Lyndon B. Johnson (Democratic): 1963-1969

37. Richard M. Nixon (Republican): 1969-1974

38. Gerald R. Ford (Republican): 1974-1977

39. James E. Carter (Democratic): 1977-1981

(1): First President since Franklin D. Roosevelt to seek and win a third term, defeats Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts. 1989-1990 ITTL go pretty much the same as it did under Bush OTL. Resigns in November of 1990, due to being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease (Diagnosed 4 years earlier than OTL). Passes away in June of 2000 from pneumonia after suffering with Alzheimer's for a decade.

(2): Ascends to the Presidency after the Reagan resignation. His term, spanning a little over 2 years was not at all different from the last 2 years of his OTL term. Senator Bob Dole was chosen to be Vice President. After 12 years of GOP rule of the White House, the Bush/Dole ticket was defeated in 1992 by Ark. Governor Bill Clinton and Ten. Senator Al Gore.

(3): Despite scandal and impeachment, President Clinton maintained high approval ratings in his second term, and despite some voter fatigue and then Vice-President Al Gore declining to run with him for a third time, President Clinton and his running mate Senator Bob Graham of Florida defeat Governor George W. Bush of Texas by closely winning Graham's home state of Florida and the President's home state of Arkansas. America is attacked on 9/11/01, and President Clinton invades Afghanistan in October of '01 and the Taliban regime is overthrown and the leader of Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden is captured and killed in December of 2001. U.S. forces withdraw from Afghanistan in late 2003. President Clinton has a heart attack in mid 2002 and has an emergency bypass surgery. Barely making it through his third term, the President declines to seek a fourth. First Lady Hillary Clinton is elected to the Senate from her home state of Illinois in 2004. President Clinton sadly passes away of heart related issues in 2006.

(4): Defeating Fmr. Vice President Al Gore in the 2004 Presidential election, President McCain put an end to 12 years of Democratic control of the White House. President McCain was the first President in 50 years to have Republicans in control of both houses of congress, and with it passed a middle class tax cut, a prescription drug plan to Medicare, and built upon the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms that he authored in the Senate. President McCain also made two Supreme Court appointments in 2005 to replace Chief Justice Rehnquist and associate justice O'Connor. However, due to his poor response to Hurricane Katrina (though not as bad as Bush's OTL) and his unpopular decision to attack Iraq in 2006, the Democrats retook control of both houses of congress for the first time in 12 years. 2007 and 2008 were pretty bad for the President to, due to gridlock and rising oil prices due to the instability in the middle east caused by the war in Iraq and the bombing of Syria in 2007. Re election looked grim for President McCain, until October of 2008 when it was revealed that his opponent Senator John Kerry's running mate Senator John Edwards was involved in an extra marital affair that resulted in a love child. Senator Kerry would replace Edwards with Fmr. house minority leader Dick Gephardt. Despite all the problems Senator McCain presided over and despite Senator Kerry winning the popular vote, President McCain became the 4th President in history to win a Presidential election without the popular vote due to razor thin victories in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado. Things would get even worse for President McCain in his second term as the U.S. would see the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression hit in the fall of 2009. This as well as the ongoing war in Iraq would give the Democrats upper majorities in the 2010 midterms. President McCain made it very clear in early 2011 that he would not seek a third term as President, and his final major act as President through the war powers act, was assisting our NATO allies and rebels in Libya to remove Gadhafi from power. Our involvement however was limited to airstrikes. Congress cut funding for the Iraq war latter that year forcing the President to withdraw all troops from the country. He would spend the rest of his Presidency as a lame duck presiding over the worst economy since the 1930s.
