Panama as a permanent part of the US? Interesting...how's the historical likelihood of this?
Probably not likely, but I wanted something different and in 1921 Panama did vote to either become independent or part of Columbia.
The US may have gone for it if it was on the table in OTL. They would be getting a new territory without paying anything, plus the bonus of having a short hop across the territory to the Pacific rather than around South America. So, I would see a number of US citizens moving down there for plantations, farming, and to work on a road/railway across Panama.

I'm not deleting your state, but a span from 1837 to 1905 seems like a long time for no state admissions.
