What do you think would change, if Gustavus Adolphus king of Sweden, survived the battle of Lutzen? Would he get his Swedish led union of Khalmar? Would the Germanies begin unification earlier? How would that alter the thirties year war and beyond?
Sweden would rise still as powerful nation but it hardly can unite whole Scandinavia as one nation. And we hardly see united Germany. There wasn't yet nationalism which would has helped unite that.

Well he never really wanted a Swedish Union of Kalmar but making the Holy Roman Empire Protestant led, with Gustavus himself as Emperor. Realistically however, that would be impossible, so I bet that we'd eventually see a divide between Northern and Southern Germany, with the North turned into a Confederation led by Sweden and the South led by Austria.
Thanks for the info. I got into alt history reading the 1632 series by Eric flint. I have always been fascinated by how many decisions affected the war. This led me to consider how a surviving Gustavus could have changed the future for Germany, colonization, and the future of the Americas.
