I need help fleshing out this timeline. No flaming please, I cry easily XD

Lots of ASB, but an amicable attempt in effort. On some of the early stuff, while Lincoln wanted a kind and amicable Reconstruction, there's nothing to say he couldn't have kept troops in the South to ensure the Southerners followed the law and allowed black civil rights (which I doubt they'd do if there weren't anyone there to make sure they did) as the Radical Republicans did. Likewise, he was not going to run for a third term. His plans were to carry out his second term, retire, and travel out to and explore California and the west with Mary. Likewise, if Lincoln is alive, I think you should meter in the effects of that on political realignment. Afterall, there were factions which had always existed in both parties (these factions being conservative, liberal and moderate), and the Republicans were of course the more Progressive of the two and the Democrats the Conservative most of the two for the longest time. A living Lincoln would also cause butterflies.

Well, you could have used the butterfly effect a lot more, and the US annexing ANY part of Australia without going to war with Britain is utter AB, but otherwise, good effort, keep trying.;):)

I think the assassination attempt would've had an adverse effect on him, but in regards to traveling California with Mary, do you think I should add in a suicide on her part? I believe I heard she was a little crazy

Hence why I made the National Union party survive. Radical Republicans and Whigs would control the Republican Party, Ex-Confederates (minus Lee) would control the Democrats, and the National Union Party would take the role of the Progressives later on.

I laughed so hard I had to stop reading for a few minutes. Everything seems to make hardly any sense in relationship to the event barely four years before.

Where to start? Lincoln running for a third term in 1868? He'd be lucky to be still alive! And even if he were he'd be in no shape and condition to make an unprecedent run as he would most likely die shortly after finishing his 2nd term in March 1869. General Robert E. Lee would not be alive in 1880 let alone be president. He fought 4 years in Civil War that itself took a psychological and physical toll on him, as a result it is very likely he would die in 1870 as in OTL. And finally, 30 year old Bill Clinton being elected president in 1976 LOL!!! This is just too funny! :D

am I the only one who finds it odd that this timeline says Roosevelt was the first to win a third term when Lincoln served the majority of four?

and annexing half of australia? I don't even know what to say to that

Yeah, I started a timeline w/ a five term Roosevelt, got bored and tried to do a living Lincoln timeline, and they caught up with each other and I was feeling lazy, thats one reason why it's so ASB

Did you read the author's post count? You can offer criticism without being a dick.

Didn't matter what the number is. Any one who does post something blatantly shoddy should be told. The valid criticism was that nothing made sense with the events that happened the previous year. Its also fairly apparent that the author himself admits to poor craftsmanship and just posted something rather than refined it. Not to mention posting it on the wrong board. It should be in the Pre-1900 board.

Criticism breeds improvement, in that way it's ten times better than praise. Frankly, I think there could be a few adjustments made to the TL, with more attention to cause and effect, and this could be a decent, though highly improbable scenario. Keep trying, and don't get discouraged by people like David S Poepoe.

Don't make excuses for your work...You admit not having it all down, so you shouldn't have to cover it up.

Considering that the guy's subtitle is "Super Alien Space Bats FTW", methinks the joke's on us! :D

20 Teufelseelowe Super Happy Fun Reichsmarks says this guy's a sock puppet. :p

He's not being a dick, he's offering a valid criticism, and one I handily share.

My reasons:
  1. this is the After 1900 forum for one.
  2. Its a string of ill though ideas and propositions
  3. I don't like his subtitle
  4. ASB-rapes several areas of history, especially concerning Theodore Roosevelt.
  5. Ignores the butterly effect, or failing that, plausibility.
In short, @ the OP welcome to my ignore list, where people remain until they're first decent TL comes out, or they mellow out. (you're actually on it too!)
