Lincoln hash punishment on the South?

I wonder if Lincoln had survived the attempt on his life in Fords Theater. Would he had exceeded his revenge on the South??

people had tried to kill Lincoln before (one time his hat got shot off his head when he was riding) and he was still saying "With malice toward none; with charity for all"

Lincoln never seemed the vengeful type. If he could still push for "malice towards none" after the thousands of lives ended and massive destruction of the war I doubt one blowhard actor with an immortality fixation would change that.

IMO if Lincoln lives a much less harsh reconstruction begins. Maybe this butterflies some of the displaced revanchism that led to Jim Crow, lynchings, and the KKK, or at least lessens them somewhat. Or maybe it just helps to reinstate the plantation system as a quasi-serfdom as the old southron aristocrats reestablish themselves.

There was no harsh reconstruction in OTL. Huge numbers of people made war against the United States but there were no treason trials. There was no mass confiscation of land (unfortunately)

Elements in the South resented the vicious Northern influenced governments for doing things like introducing Public education (for black and white) and also for trying to enforce equal rights.

While it certainly didn't involve treason trials, the reconstruction that was done was harsher than Lincoln had wanted, but not nearly as harsh as many wanted it to be.

Different Civil Rights

The Civil Rights Era would not have happened, because he would have made sure the freedmen had equal rights with whites. That is probably what would have happened, and the South might have made more with the KKK to make sure that blacks did not use their freedom. The KKK Act would have still been made, but only it would made by Lincoln instead of Grant. Lincoln may have not been seen as such a great president if he survived. The fact he got assassinated brought him more on the spotlight and people saw all of the great things he did. Although, he might still be as famous.
