Limited German Aid in Africa

What if Mussolini was willing to accept limited German aid in Africa in 1940, something not very exciting like anti-tank guns that wouldn't steal the Italian's glory but might provide useful help in areas that are deficient.

Lets say 2 heavy anti-aircaft battalions composing of 24 88 mm guns total arrive in late November and are assigned to the defence or Bardia (12) and Tobruk (12). Would these be enough for the Italians to hold the cities???

Without proper German assistance the allies will take what territory the Italians hold in Africa and that will make it much easier to attack Italy. Thus giving Germany one hell of a headache.

I was thinking that limited aid in the autumn of 1940 (before the Africa Corps came in OTL) might allow the Italians to do better in Operation Compass. A few 88mm guns to give some stopping power against the Matilidas might allow the Italians to hold some line some place.

In a perfect setting for the Axis, with a pinch of German aid, the Italians are able to stop the British enough that they become interested in East Africa or Greece or Syria or someplace and the bulk of the Africa Corps can be committed to the eastern front for the whole of 1941.
