Without the King, Benny can try the smart move and try to subdue the new king and make him more pliable or have one of his fit of megalomania and try to eliminate the only check left...the monarchy with violence, and if he does this things will get ugly very very soon as the army is loyal to the monarchy, the aviation leaning more on the fascist and the navy undecided.

Not to praise the dictator, but he remained in power for two decades and basically without internal opposition and even without too much bloodshed or violence.
Benny was a master class player in internal italian politics, honestly he was the damned best; unfortunalely he shared the abysmall ignorance in foreign politics and illusion regarding our realistic capacity of all other italian policitians.
Honestly he represented the best and worst of the italian political class at the same time, basically the zenith of the politician of his age with all the pro and cons
