Library of Alexandria Egypt.

This is not really historical, but what if there was a way that you could be transported back into time and gain access to the ancient library at Alexandria. Imagine the knowledge that would be gained. We could stay only about a week or so before being transported back to our own time. So who wants to come? Let's have fun!!

My favorite part of the first National Treasure movie is that the treasure includes scrolls from the Library at Alexandria.

Time-travel like this should go in the ASB forum, but it's an interesting scenario nonetheless.

I'd certainly go, but not without several high-quality cameras.

The best choices would the sites of forgotten cities and valuable minerals and other items which you could make practical use out of.

Otherwise you've memorized priceless lost poetry and prose but is your word enough to convince anyone that lost treasures have been rediscovered?

Why convince them? If the stuff is good quality, sell it under your own name.

Anyway, if you can get some of that poetry to a professor who would know that sort of stuff, he could tell the age by how it's written. Languages change.

Oh, man... I was a philosophy minor (sort of-long story) focusing on ancient Greek philosophy in college. Even if I couldn't prove it was real, even if I couldn't even show it to anyone else, I would give my left arm and two fingers from my right for the chance to read the lost dialogues of Plato.

'Course, I don't actually know ancient Greek, so that might be a problem...

I'll come along, though I'm hardly fluent, so I'll bring my dictionaries, if I may. ;). Really, as Ran said, one needs a camera. Well, a load of cameras, backup power supplies and assorted devices to copy the images onto.

You should be able to take some back with you actually. Assuming one is ISOTed to Alexandria with their clothes(the common assumption, understandably:D), one could attach significant amounts of documents and "books" if that would be the ideal the word, onto the inside of ones clothes and into ones pockets:p.

I don't know what manuscripts I'd take though.... don't know enough about them.

Several morbidly obese people?

They'd need more clothes, y'see. ;)

Forget the morbidly obese people, I'd just pile layer upon layer of fat peoples clothes on myself:D.... of course, I'd probably get heatstroke(especially seeing as I'd be in Egypt). But it would be worth it........or not.

Which has given me a thread idea....

A chance to raid the Libary of Alexandria! Count me in! I dare say you could find a few primary source doccuments on Alexander's campaigns... time it right and it may be possible to also round up a few living primary sources (Ptolemy I perhaps?).

Also any chance of visiting the rest of the city?
