Let's play a game with the Congo!

Inspired by the tv show @Midnight, let's play the AH version! Post your best ideas for how the area of the Belgian Congo would be divided up and when something like the Berlin Congress/Race for Africa would occur if Belgium and therefore Leopold also was not around (Belgium itself is either French, Dutch, or a combination, doesnt matter for the game why). Bonus "points" for making a map. Begin!

It gets split between Portugal, France and Britain (a bit of the east goes to Germany and Portugal grabs the southern half of the BCAP for mosambique). This allows than to complete there Cape Town to Ciro railway without the German East Africa colonies.

Is a pretty bad map made on my phone though, is hardly deserves bonus points.

Edit: Beter Map

I'm pretty sure the whole "Cape to Cairo" thing was pure propaganda. It was thoroughly impractical and would have been useless if it had been completed. The British had control of a route from 1919 to 1962 and did nothing with it.

The Portuguese and the French would have tried to grab as much of the area as possible, and the map would have depending on what settlement they reached. The British would have been in a good position to grab the Katanga mines and probably would have done so. The Germans would have been able to establish a protectorate over some mountainous areas in the east that no one else wanted.

Without Leopold there would have also been alot more Congolese.

O wow I just read some Wikipedia about that and I dd not know before that it never got completed. While it would certainly be great propaganda I think that the practical use would be quite significant. And have a large effect on later colonization.

Also check out this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudd

The Sudd is a really significant barrier. I get the impression building a railway through there was never practical.

For comparison, Brazil despite expenditure of vast amounts of money and labor, has had problems building highways in the Amazon that don't deteriorate into uselessness a few years after construction. And they have never attempted to build a railway.
