Let's assume the Mormon missions in Ireland yielded more converts, could the LDS become minority?

in this scenario the Irish missions in Ireland are more successful and more Irish Mormons stay than immigrate to the USA, couldnthe Irish Mormons be a minority to the Protestants and Catholics? Would we see Mormon IRA members?

If a significant minority develop before ww1 I can't see them staying after independence.

The paramilitary groups on both sides would be pretty inclined to drive out a group so obviously associated with foreign powers.

Well, Mormons are a minority in Ireland right now.

If by "minority" you mean "significant minority", sure, if they get enough converts, they'll be a significant minority. That's almost a tautology.

I'm not sure about them joining the IRA, though. Granted, the Ian Paisley types would probably be pretty fired-up against them(if you thought Maryolatry was bad, wait'll you see God And His Wife Have Sex), and if the Orangemen start launching armed attacks against the LDS, the Mormons might start trying to defend themselves in some way.

That said, the default sectarianism in that place seems so entrenched, it might be unlikely that anyone would have room in their pysche for entertaining an American-based faith based on Jesus walking around the US midwest. Interesting scenario, though.

The Mormon missions to Ireland/the rest of the UK were most fruitful during the 1840s. No one was staying in Ireland then if they had a homeland in the Salt Lake Valley waiting for them.
