Leopold I of the United Kingdom

With a POD no earlier than January 1, 1900, put a Leopold on the throne of England by December 31, 1999.

One rule: your POD can't involve royal parents who didn't name any of their children Leopold in OTL deciding to name their children Leopold in TTL.

Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, does not die of haemophilia aged 30 in 1884. His older siblings have either died or become King/Queen of other countries and he becomes King Leopold at Queen Victorias death in 1901.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be about this guy being put on the British throne. And the thought of that made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Well, then maybe there is a way to get him on the British throne. Emperor of India and the Congo? Could be a younger brother of King George V, son of Queen Charlotte. In true Georgian fashion the brother succeeds the brother.

But Leopold was a Catholic. :(
He can convert.
Or they could change/abolish the Act of Settlement.
Shouldn't be too difficult to get Parliament's approval for that, since Belgium and the Congo were rich in resources that Britain would have valued a lot more than some old law.

You can bet conversion would have been pushed, and pushed hard. A Catholic on the throne of Great Britain a century ago would not have been popular, to say the least: the Orange Order in Ulster and Scotland would not have taken that lightly at all. They likely would have exerted their not-inconsiderable economic muscle for starters. I also wouldn't have put some sort of armed protest past them, either.

Short version: unless Leopold converted, there would be major civil unrest in much of Scotland and Ireland.

It is a really sad reflection on human history that they would actually give even half a shit over if he was Catholic or not.
I mean, shouldn't they be first and foremost, Britons, and loyal to the monarch and all that jazz?

Not quite necromancy, but a good solid bump. Especially since no one actually gave the challenge a try the first time around.:p
