POD: Lenny Bruce manages to quit heroin (and morphine) for good in the mid-1960s. He lives for many years afterwards. Eventually the cops get tired of busting him and always losing their cases in a changed legal climate. How lasting will his popularity be, especially when he has to compete with a lot of imitators--and in a world where you can use any words you want to in nightclubs, though of course not on radio or (non-cable) TV? He once said there was nothing sadder than an aging hipster, but is there any way he could be anything else?
