Lennon Lives but Reagan doesn't?

I read somewhere that John Hinckley Jr. was affected by the assassination of John Lennon and this was ultimately a significant stresser in his eventual attempt on President Reagans life. Also in the Reagan episode of Infamous Assassinations I remember it was said that Hinckley was gonna attempt to kill Reagan sooner but called it off to attend a vigil for Lennon in New York.

So if Lennon survived how would it affect the attempt on Reagan? Would it succeed or still fail or not even happen at all?

I think the Lennon assasination had very little (if any) impact on the success or failure of Hinckley’s attempt on Reagan. If the attempt is earlier it could go either way.

If we have the outcome you outlined (Reagan dies and Lennon lives), we get 8 years of Bush in the 1980’s (unless he gets impeached over Iran-Contra assuming that still happens). Dems might win in ‘88 since I think Bush would be more controversial then Reagan due to not having as much charisma.

As for Lennon, maybe the Beatles do a reunion, maybe they don’t. I heard they might’ve done that if Lennon hadn’t died but I’m not 100% sure.

There were talks of a Beatles reunion in the seventies. Most concluded they would not consider it because the reunion would kindle expectations of another 1964 and they could not deliver. Then, some said maybe after 2000 when they are older, an old-times-sake reunion might be possible. But by then, George didn't make it.

As for President Bush, you have reset the time line. Would he go through with Reagan's "voodoo economics?" He might not. In any case, the economy would re-elect him in 1984. Hopefully, there would be less de-regulation.
