December 8th, 1980: John Lennon is accosted by superfan Mark David Chapman, who stalks him outside of his home at the Dakota for nearly 3 hours. As Lennon approaches the building, Chapman open fires at him, but only hits him in his left arm. Lennon is immediately rushed to the ER and is treated successfully for his wounds. Chapman is arrested.

December 15th, 1980: In his first interview since his near fatal encounter, Lennon states: "I'm doing just fine now. What happened to me has made me realize that I gotta take life a bit more seriously and put more work into it. The people I wasn't nice to, the bridges I burned, I really have to work at that to make those things better. It's not enough to preach peace, but to actually work for it in your own life."
