Lenin shot by a German soldier?

that still brings up why the Soldier would need to pull out his gun on a 40 year old.

If you're a soldier getting your ass kicked by Lenin, you have problems....

Hey, I am 42 almost 43 years old. Are you saying that we cannot still kick ass at 40?;)

And before that he was drawn to the Christian Socialists, who were about as populist right wing as you could get. Prior to WWI, Hitler seems to have been your typical crank, with the usual mass of vague shifting political values, and massive chip on his shoulder for everybody else.

I would say no Lenin is likely to stop the Communist Revolution from occuring in a recognizable fashion; OTL most of the other leading Bolsheviks were content to cooperate with the Provisional Government until Lenin arrived on the scene and started agitating for a proper Communist Revolution. Of course, if the Provisional Government continues to make a mess of things, there's a decent chance that the Bolsheviks would still eventually turn on it, but without Lenin's influence it will take them longer to do so.

Who would take up leadership of the Bolsheviks is also an interesting question; Stalin is unlikely given his lack of charisma or popularity amongst the party's ranks.

Stalin taking leadership immediately is unlikely, but a behind-the-scenes role that he could work in quietly and consolidate power like he historically did is much more suitable to his nature.

Stalin following his OTL course to eventually claim absolute power is certainly possible, but a lot is going to depend on who takes over the party in 1917, and how many butterflies that sets off. If the Bolsheviks throw their lot in with the Provisional Government instead of remaining outside and agitating for continued revolution, then the changes could be massive.

Definitely! Lenin's death could butterfly the whole revolution entirely, just thought it was interesting to note Stalin's rise to power, far from a leader figure... not at first anyway.

If you look at how Saddam Hussein took power it has elements of Stalin, quite disturbing that lot.
