Have been looking around this forum for some time decided to take the plunge.

When Lenin heard of the revolution, he rushed back from Switzerland aided by Germany in his famous sealed train. What if however, the train derailed in the middle of the German countryside killing everyone on board, most notably Lenin and Zinoviev. What happens to the Bolsheviks and the revolution in general. The main two guys on the ground are Stalin and Kamenev. Trotsky wasn't around (not really a Bolshevik at this time) and the Bolsheviks were quite happy with the Revolution as it is. Only when Lenin arrived did they change their tune and stop working with the Provisional Government (and anyone else for that matter).

IMHO, I think the Bolsheviks would have gradually merged with the Mensheviks. The PG would probably fall sooner or later and the Soviet would take charge, the whole process being more democratic and Marxist than what Lenin had in mind.
