I'm working on a TL where Gennadius is poisoned in 577 after attacking Garmul. Garmul seeing that he picked the wrong enemy, hastily signs peace with Tiberius allowing the Mauro-Roman Kingdom to survive. He and his successors would remain peaceful until the 610s when they overrun Byzantine Africa during a Byzantine-Sassanid war that ends in Khosrau II destroying the Byzantine Empire and creating a great empire that is tolerant of Christians. The Muslims are destroyed in their cradle as the Persians seek to defend their holdings in Ethiopia and thus we have a powerful empire stretching from the Bosporus and Egypt to Iran. Meanwhile, we have a Romano-Berber kingdom in the Maghreb. Slavs meanwhile have overrun the entire Balkans whilst the last remnants of the Byzantines in Western Europe have been seized by neighbouring kingdoms.

What else could happen in such a world? With the Byzantines gone, it is likely that the Berbers would claim to be the last successor of Rome and they would be one of the strongest claimants to this.
