Much as somne bluie-statzers dislike Bush, I doubt many of them would actually rejoice. Kennedy was a polarising president in his time, and my grandfather (staunch Republican if ever there was one) was shocked and horrified at his assassination.
However, in the greater scheme of things I don't think it would make as much of a splash as a domestic killing. Visits of state are acknowledged to be a dangerous thing, and while very few people will understand the background, most will have heard something bad about the Caucasus, so it's not really a great shock. Heads will roll in the Secret Service, natch, and relations with Georgia will be strained for a while (Russia might be able to cash in on this), but invasion? Hardly. Unless it could be proved that Arutinian was in the pay of someone's intelligence service, which would be a phenomenally stupid idea.
However, I fear we would never hear the end of how Bush,
had he but lived, would have turned Iraq around, solved the Israel-Palestine conflict, prevented Iran from going nuclear, contained Hizbullah, stopped the subprime loan crisis and shepherded Myanmar into democratic transition before the end of his second term.
