Lee Atwater lives

If he doesn’t get cancer he remains pure evil… so nothing good. Perhaps he teaches Gingrich not to be petty and the two crazies take down Clinton with fake news in 1996.

Apparently Atwater feared Clinton as the greatest threat to Bush's re-election, so he'd do his utmost to sabotage Clinton during the primaries and after that the general election (if he makes it that far). But given that Clinton's baggage was already in public view when he ran and was the subject of fierce attack campaigns but still won nonetheless I think Clinton would've won with or without Atwater. Perhaps it's fitting that Atwater's death ultimately had little to no impact on human history - he was nothing more than a parasitic, ruthless and cruel man who lived for nothing other than political victory at the expense of other people's lives.

He'd bring up the sex scandals I imagine, given that is an easy target.

Alternate scenario: he does get cancer, is true about his conversion (debatable IOTL), and switches to the Democratic Party determined to gain forgiveness.

(Lol imagine what he knows about his own side then given what we eventually learned.)

In that case, the Democrats could retaliate by exposing Atwater's notorious womanizing. Clinton personally wouldn't touch that issue, but his supporters and the DNC easily could. I actually have a feeling that Atwater might back off on attacking Clinton's affairs, given that he himself had many affairs and would afraid of reprisals from the Democrats. (Like how in 1796 and 1800 Hamilton didn't touch Jefferson's affair with Sally Hemings in two otherwise dirty campaigns, since he was afraid the Republicans would reveal his affair with Maria Reynolds). But like with Dukakis, Atwater would spread rumors and lies about Clinton to scare voters. Maybe Clinton wins by a narrower margin, but I think he would still be favored to win given his large popular vote margins in most of the states he won.
