OK, just watchin PATH TO WAR on TV right niw, there was 1 scene where, at a 1965 White House strategy mtg considering Westmoreland's request for 200,000 more troops, LBJ was listening to the opposing viewpoints of Robert McNamara & George Ball as to whether to continue committing to the war in vietnam- the latter of course opining that the US would be better off to exit now instead of later on down the track after committing 200,000 men, & to also not give the mortal rivals of Vietnam & China a unifying common enemy. WI Johnson had gone with this latter view instead of OTL believing in McNamara's perspective that the war was winnable if enough resources were committed in this crusade against monolithic Communism ?
