LBJ v. Nixon '68

Nov. 7, 1972: Humphrey/Kennedy win a landslide over Romney/Reagan with 55% PV and over 350 EV.

Aug. 13, 1976: Vice President Robert Kennedy accepts the Democratic nomination in Madison Square Garden and names Sen. Fritz Hollings as his running mate.

Nov. 2, 1976: Kennedy/Hollings win a narrow 287-251 victory over Reagan/Schweiker.

Jan. 20, 1977: Robert F. Kennedy inaugurated the 38th President of the United States.

Nov. 4, 1980: Kennedy wins re-election 301-237 despite a sluggish economy.

Having been out of power for virtually fifty years - who counts Eisenhower? - I'd imagine the GOP commits mass suicide at this point.
