LBJ Assassinated

One more LBJ POD, that's all.

According the the Polish-Lithuanian Genocide, the Secret Service refused to allow Johnson to speak on college campuses in 1968, due to his extreme unpopularity with university students.

What if LBJ appears on a college campus and gets assassinated by an anti-war protester in, say, the early April of 1968, just a few days after

1. Kennedy has joined the race.
2. He's announced he's suspending all bombing of North Vietnam.
3. He's decided not to run for a second (full) term.

What happens in America?

NOTE: Say a few days after MLK is assassinated in Memphis. Let's just say that the shooter is white, so we don't have a race war on our hands, since that's not what I really want this discussion to be about.

I think that Humphrey wins. In OTL he came pretty near and with both the advantage of incumbency and also the sympathy following the murder well

Query had the 25th amendment been ratified?

I think it had been. The confirmatoin process for a VP in that year looks interesting.
