What fairly recent POD could make Latin the most widely spoken language in an alternate present day?
Most obvious is the Roman Empire, but that's a bit of a cop-out. I was thinking some sort of Papal Theocracy survives until radio comes around. They then go on to create a 'Church FM' radio station, listened to by many people. It becomes a Lingua Franca, and used in international economics and so on.
Thoughts?
