This seems to be one topic that hasn't really been done to death...or done at all. Since I've been on the site (only a few months, admittedly, but it's enough to see trends), I've only seen two threads relating to the Latin Empire.

I won't waste much time on speculation, for I'm planning the TL out vaguely as I write; the only thing is, I'm not much of a High Medieval expert as some of you guys are bound to be.

So I ask: If Baldwin spends more time shoring up his position and keeping the Thracian Greeks down, and preparing for Bulgarian raids, and less time driving the Greek Emperor back to Nicaea with his tail between his legs, would you say that he has a greater chance of success?

Could he conceivably reach Thessalonica before Boniface of Montferrat, thus avoiding a very strong and powerful, not to mention unruly, vassal?

Could he (for he was noted for being very chivalric and honorable) compare notes with the successful Prince of Achaia, and treat the Greeks better, and not loot the temples and rape the land of its resources?

Could one of his descendants conceivably argue with the Pope, and then develop a syncretic Catholic-Orthodox Christianity, or perhaps convert to Orthodoxy outright?

Hmm?
