Latin American Antipope?

Maybe the Pope is puppetized by a 'victorious' Axis. Or maybe Italy goes Socialist. What exactly happens doesn't matter too much, all that matters is that the Papacy in Europe is either unacceptable to the Catholics elsewehere or simply nonexistant.

Which Latin American country would be the most likely to have a new or counter-papacy set itself up in? How much power would it have? Who might be a good candidate for Antipope? What kind of effects might this have on Catholicism?

It would be nice if the Antipope was a follower of Liberation Theology, but that isn't a requirement or anything.

A more popular and united conclavist movement that elects a Latin American as Pope? Although if you believe sedevacantist claims, then we already have a Latin American Antipope.

Some kind of Synod or Church Council would have to be called to determine where to go forward from if the Vatican is no longer an option.

This presents a serious problem, however, in that Catholicism and the doctrine of Papal Supremacy relies on there being a Bishop of Rome. Could somewhere else serve as a Papal Residence in Absentia? Sure.

But the idea that they are just going to create an entirely new Papacy in Latin America is fallacious. I can't say I know too much about Liberation theology (I assumed it was just Marxist claptrap that tried to appropriate traditional Catholic teachings on social justice and personal good works and use the institutions of the Church to advance a political agenda), but I don't believe it ever got heretical enough to actual reject Papal Supremacy and the primacy of the Bishop of Rome.

I meant more along the lines of 'The Papacy in Rome isn't an option so until we can reclaim it we're setting up a counter Papacy' not outright replacing it.

Simple: The Pope takes a temporary residence elsewhere, until he can return to Rome. After all, even radioactive isotopes will decay eventually.

Or as a very last resort - if the Earth is literally blown to bits - "Bishop of Rome" can become a titular see like many bishoprics are today.

If a sizable majority of cardinals agree to that and flock elsewhere, say to South America, then the one they'll elect in due time isn't an anti-Pope. He's the real Pope, just residing elsewhere than Rome. The one in Rome, especially if he's just some temporal power's puppet, is the anti-Pope. Expect a schismatic church to be set up around him by that power.
