Latest possible recognition of the PRC?

How long could the US and its allies stall in recognizing the PRC government as the legitimate government of China and holder of China's seat on the UNSC? And what would be some of the global political effects?

Depends on when/if reformists come to power in the state. If it remains an agrarian backwater, it could keep its status as an international pariah, similar to China in The Anglo/American Nazi War. If, on the other hand, Deng or someone like him comes to power, the sheer economic power of the country will be impossible to ignore.

In the latter case, I'd say recognition could be held off until sometime in the 80s at the latest.

"and its allies" ???

UK, Sweden, Denmark, Finland: 1950
Norway: 1954
France: 1964
Canada, Italy: 1970
Kuwait, Turkey, Iran: 1971

after being seated at the UN, but before the end of 1972
Belgium, Mexico, Argentina, Netherlands, Greece, Japan, BRD=FRG, Australia and New Zealand

---
The fact that the US waited so long made her a laughingstock in World Politics, really.

Sorry, what's BRD=FRG?

Goootcha, danke schön ;)

What were some of the reasons for the (more or less immediate) recognition by the countries in 1950? And when did South Korea extend recognition?
