Latest possible POD for an united Scandinavia?

What is the latest possible POD for an united Scandinavia? I'm defining Scandinavia as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Åland Islands and Iceland, because of their ethnolinguistic similarities.

I think that the latest point was in the 1860s. The failure of Norway-Sweden to do anything on behalf of the Kingdom of Denmark in 1864 put an end to pan-Scandinavianism. If you had that support, even if Denmark was still defeated, you might well have had something.

I'd say 1860s is latest pre 21st century. I think it is possible Scandinavia federalizes in the next 100 years or so.

I always say that the last possible POD for a union between the Netherlands and Belgium would be after WWI or even WWII, when (in absense of NATO and the EU ) both countries together with Luxemburg decide closer cooperation after both are attacked by Germany which ends in a lose federation after several decades. Maybe something similar could happen to scandinavia. So Denmark, Norway and Sweden are all attacked and occupied during WWI and WWII and decide to cooperate together and slowly forrm their own federation.

This, very much this. Slesvig was the tipping point on which Scandinavianism was going to live or die, given it was the test of weather or not the Swedes would bleed for their brothers who were dedicated to keeping Norse under the rule of Norse and discarding the Feudal-medieval structure of them and Holstein with a modern, ethno-state model of "Denmark to the Eider". If Sweden had demonstrated a willingness to actually treat the violation of the rights of the Slesvigers like they would that of their own countrymen, then you'd have grounds on which to pereceive them AS their countrymen.

Whether or not this was possible is another matter. Was Norway-Sweden ever likely to get involved?

Not likely, if there's no strong Pre-War POD. I suppose it's possible, with some earlier wheeling and dealing between the Great Powers, to get a scenario where Slesvig and Holstein are split despite local wishes, perhaps with Fredrick VII having declare wishes to have the throne placed jn personal union with Sweden upon his death? Unlikely, but it's the best I have right now

I belive 1800s were to late. I Think the last best hope for Scandinavia was Charles X and instead of having the treaty of Roskilde march on and take the Danish capital that was in a state of panic from the march over the Belt and then have Denmark form a union with Sweden. Charles might actually have survived a few more years since the second war more or less burned him out.

A United Scandinavia with the same Swedification of Denmark as Skane and Blekinge Went through up to around 1700 means that the Danish nationalism is all but wiped out. Norway would integrate just fine.

What happens with the Polish and Russian revenge ambitions if Sweden also is Norway and Denmark and do not have to worry about that flank. What does Pruessia do with their norden neighbour?

If Denmark and Sweden are in a union there might be less... incentive for that kind of Swedification.

You're dealing with quite a few more Danes with a much more educated population and entrenched intelligencia, with no immediate Swedish neighbors to move in. I highly doubt you'll be able to assimilate them, especially since Sweden has other issues to worry about like the the Czars Big Bear in the east) who would LOVE an excuse to stake claim based on their Hostein-Gothorp lineage. Scandinavia is only uniting by concent as co-equals: unlike in Italy and Germany there's no overwhelmingly powerful hegemon.

Uhm... I'm not sure the until then-eastern part of Denmark was that much more uneducated than Jutland, even if the reformation (and before then,
the establishing of those of Nidaros and Uppsala) presumably had been a bit of a blow to the status of the Archdiocese of Lund.
