Largest Canada without a Texas Problem

The British were fairly generous/lenient territorially when it came to dealing with the United States following the Revolution and after the war of 1812. They reasonably could have held on to or grabbed more territory, but didn't.

However, if they took too much territory they'd face the issue of American settlers moving in and becoming rebellious (like what happened with Americans in Texas).

What is the most territory the British could have taken while avoiding a Texas situation?

They could have soundly defeated the US had the war of 1812 gone on longer taken all of Oregon, what we call Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan as well as half of Maine.

the Texas problem is not automatic. Plenty of US folk moved to Canada and didn't rebel. It took a unique set of circumstances to create the Texas scenario.

Where this question breaks down is that Britain was not interested in holding territory. They had rapidly figured out that they could get all the benefits with an open trade market. Mercantilism went out the window with the american revolution, and Britain benefitted immensely.
