larger Trotsky exile

hello everyone and this is my first thread this one is what i thought about and couldn't find. what if Trotsky had a larger exile and what are the effects? what if he doesn't go to mexico?

this is what i thought could be one way

Trotsky instead of doing nothing politically targets the officers and soldiers of the army and navy

this leads to major support for the common soldiers and sailors and a few officers but not allot in the political side and hes forced to leave the party in 1927

though he was exiled he continued to try to influence the navy and army to his ideology thinking my carers over but others must begin

the next year he was exiled from Russia hoping that this would lead to less Trotsky followers and an assassination attempt could end there lives if it fails

through his influence with the army and navy the majority wanted him to stay and start a coup, but he felt like he couldn't beat the coalition so with help from his followers in the navy he was given 5 ships and hand picked a total of 5 battalions worth of soldiers to go with him to... where?

For starters, let's wave off total implausibility of this idea and proceed as if it was possible. Stalin would never allow Trotsky to leave with such a force.

Five battalions equals roughly a brigade of troops. You do not easily cross borders of countries with a 'band' of 3000 (couple hundred more or less) soldiers. Especially if those countries aren't really that into the ideology Trotsky and his men stand for.

Besides, if they try to set up a base in a country neighboring USSR they (and said country) would be toast sooner or later. If far away, then what do they do, how do they get back? And how long would those people remain loyal to Trotsky, how would he pay and feed them? Ideology only goes so far... Unless there is some hope of imminent take over of power in USSR, empty stomach will eventually for e the majority to look for their livelihood elsewhere. As for ships? What sort of ships? Warships need lots of maintenance and care to function over medium to long term... So do merchant ships, but to a lesser extent. However to disembark 3000 people off five ships, they need a port. They need fuel for the ships. Stuff like that. Either way, maintaining this force and moving them out of Soviet Union is virtually impossible.

the port will be leningrad trotsky has the support of the naval commanders so they ship him with his troops to somewhere and disguise them as passengers on a ship. stalin doesn't suspect anything because its all being monitored by secret trotsky supporters. it could also not be all at once. once they get to the destination they go and work through factories, fields and etc to gain support, and just like lenin hell use international backers to raise funds and see what happends
