Larger scale American Fascist movement?

I have a feeling some sort of fascist movement in America could have happened and been larger than the Silver Legion. Mosley's BUF may not have been very successful, but he certainly got some media attention and had a few large rallies and the like. While there's still the German-American Bund having the huge Madison Square Garden event, and other similar things, American fascism simply wasn't as large as many other countries. The first things I can think of is a worse depression, or perhaps it being pushed out longer or delayed or something. I'm also not talking about a National Socialist party like Rockwell's thing, but more of a traditional Mussolini-like fascist movement. Just a thought, any ideas on how it could have happened and what it would look like?

The Business Plot goes with it's backup choice instead: Douglas MacArthur.

Deeper depression, causing more people to look to the extremes left and right. Broader support for socialism and communism will have the effect of creating a larger fascist movement. Perhaps more Soviet support for American communists organization indirectly creates the conditions for fascism in America. Perhaps General Secretary Trotsky supporter of world revolution leads to a far right dictatorial US.
Another thought is perhaps MacArthur does not break up the Bonus Army. Perhaps it grows in scope and there are more general protests over the state of the nation. Labor would get involved and this leads to the narrative of a red scare. Something along the lines of the 60’s where there is a counter action to the perceived loss of order that leads to a Nixon. (Not saying Nixon was a Facist) . “Disorder”, “Chaos”, in the streets , economic turmoil and many will look to anyone who promises to restore order.

I was actually randomly having this thought in relationship to some timeline where America joins the Axis; do you think Antisemitism could become such a mainstream force that a figure could try to recast the American Revolution as 'throwing off the chains of International Jewry' [Essentially Rothschild conspiracy stuff where the British Empire is a shell for Jewish Bankers] ? I mean, I know antisemitism was widespread, but I don't think it had the same sort of motivational inertia in America as it did in Europe, mainly due to more immediate racial prejudices. But this was mostly a thought-experiment of whether America could produce a Fascism amicable to Nazism (on a large scale), as opposed to something a bit more sui generis.

It could be multiple types. One could indeed be venerating George Washington and the War of Independence as the defeat of Jewry or something. America also has a rather sizeable African-American population that would need to be brought into the equation, it would be hard to take power easily when a guerilla force could assemble and fight back against a racial supremecist government. Because of that, I wouldn't consider something analogous to Nazism to be as plausible, it could very well be a pro-north government that sees Jews as those responsible for slavery or something along those lines. Sorry if I don't make sense, it's 3 AM here :p

You're more likely to see a traditional Fascist type of movement than a National Socialist one. Off the top of my head, the best way to jump start this would be a "Red Scare" scenario in an environment where the USSR had taken a more meddling/aggressive stance pre-Depression. Have the stock market collapse, rush on the banks, ect. align time-wise with some major strikes so there's a public perception that labor unrest is partially to blame. Agitation and Communist marches against cut backs in jobs and pay as the economy crumbles, exasperating the problem as Grangers start slaughtering pigs and burning grain they can't sell as their farms go belly up and folks in the cities go hungry, surviving banks declare holidays that last for weeks to avoid withdrawls and get stormed Black Friday style by desperate consumers trying to get food money, strikes on railroads which further break down the flow of goods, ect. This would create fear of a Communist revolution, which would drive the middle class, urbanites, and elites to support a military-law enforcement crackdown and more draconian policies to enforce order and protect property.

America had a large scale fascist movement, it's called the Ku Klux Klan. Specifically the "Second Klan" which was formed in 1915 by William J. Simmons, had a formal membership structure, national reach, and an expansion of its politics to be anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant, and anti-semitic, not just anti-black. It grew rapidly in the early 1920's, claiming up to 4 million members. It's decline was just as rapid. D.C. Stephenson, Grand Wizard of Indiana, and a major figure in Indiana politics, was convicted of the rape and murder of a young white woman, and the scandal discredited the Klan. Membership collapsed as quickly as it had grown. A Klan that dodges the scandal and proceeds to make firmer alliances with establishment parties could all too easily become the edge of acceptable politics.
