I found him a pygmy, I left him a giant. - Napoleon

Marshal of the Empire, Jean Lannes is frustrated. It's one of the few times that he showed his weakness against the odds, instead of defying it, like he usually does.
Right now, he's sitting near a ditch, contemplating. His plan on destroying Count Klenau's forces in a swift attack suddenly turns into a death trap. His corps is still holding onto the town of Aspern, albeit precariously. The reinforcements can't come to his aid immediately. So he needed to think of a new plan fast, before the Austrians decimate his forces.
"Sire! Please don't expose yourself out here! One of Lannes' aides called out to him.
Lannes stood up and approached the said aide. "What's happening?"
"Sire, the Austrians are amassing their cannons! They're attempting to break our lines!"
Before Lannes can give his reply, a stray cannonball struck the ditch that he recently occupied. The two men immediately ducked.
"Give the order to the generals to assemble at the camp. We have to hold out longer until the reinforcements arrive. I still believe in a victory."
"Yes, sire." the aide replied.
A new battle - a battle for survival - begins.
