Lakhmids

In OTL Sassanids destroy the Lakhmids. This may have helped Islam spread. What would happen if they weren't attacked?

With enough interest I might start a timeline

I don't understand how conquering the Lakhmids helped Islam spread. The events seem too far apart for this connection to be made.

I don't see much happening differently. The Arabs would overrun them before heading into Persia.

Maybe if the Sassanids didn't spend resources fighting the Lakhmids, the Sassanids would have focused on the Byzantines more. This might put the Sassanids in a better position to repel the Arabs.

The Lakhmids served as a buffer between Arab raiders from further south and the Sassanids. When the Sassanids took direct control of the Lakhmid lands, they had to spend resources on defending it from raiders. This weakened their overall position. Had they been stronger, they might have resisted the Arab expansion.

Probably should have asked if this would let the Sassanids survive.

Like Philip already said; it would help.

The Lakhmid kingdom would act as a barrier between the Muslims and the core territories of Persia, and the Persians could fight the Muslims more efficiently with the help of the Lakhmids.

However, this will only buy the Sassanids some more time.

The only thing that can actually save the Sassanids at this point, is a strong leader who manages to restore order in Persia and prevents the Arabs from invading and conquering territories like Fars, Azerbaijan, and maybe even Khuzestan.
