For a (secret) side project I am working on, I am trying to achieve an independent Quebec as early as 1812. The idea being that Quebec undergoes a Francophone revolution in the early 1800s and declares independence from Great Britain. This sets the stage for a completely different analogue of the War of 1812, where the young Quebecois Republic allies with the United States in a war of independence against the British.
I have already received some suggestions. Thande for one, believed it to be necessary to replace Guy Carleton with a less capable governor. If so, then I need to find a character who, while an incompetent politician, remains a plausible choice for appointment to the colonies.
Furthermore, I also wonder if I need to go back as early as the Quebec Act of 1774, which forms the earliest possible PoD for this project (that is, I cannot go back to the Seven Years' War).
What do you believe?
