L. Ron Hubbard's Science Fiction Magazine

L. Ron Hubbard does not create Dianetics and Scientology and remains a science fiction writer...discuss :)

He is gradually marginalized, due to the turn away from "pulp" standards in the fifties led by editors such as H. L. Gold at Galaxy and Anthony Boucher at F&SF. Sometime along the way he crosses up JWC and is no longer published in Astounding -- perhaps about the time it becomes Analog.

For a while he becomes a fixture at conventions, but as "one of those writers from the Old Days". He tries to submit a story to Dangerous Visions but is turned down.

I rather liked Battlefield Earth as a book, and his 10-book series whose name I've forgotten

Irrelevant, but true, LOL

It was OK. At least I have something to talk about if Scientology missionarries should ever knock at my door, it was always hard with mormons and Jehovas witnesses.

The Scientologists hold the distinction of being the only missionaries I threatened with bodily harm.

I had a good stand up arguement with a scientologist at a subway station in NYC. They were giving the book away and giving theta readings , so i thought for a chuckle (and having read extensively about theyre crack-pot BS) beforehand , that id take theyre "test" and then tell then how full of crap they are. When i did they got real defensive. They were testing this other woman at the time , and the moment i started asking awkward questions (like whats this about paying money to advance ? dont you say we are all the avatars of deceasd aliens?) she started getting nervous , and the guy doing the test started threatening her souls and such. It got real awkward. Then a couple of cops turned up and asked them if they had permission to sell stuff in the subway. They said that they were a religon , cop gave them 20 min to clear out , and i laugthd all the way home.

In short , if LRH had stuck to pulp novels , the world would be a better place

Any movies based on his books would've been much better, that's for sure. John Travolta wouldn't have had his career almost completely ruined. But on the negative side, South Park would've lost some of it's best subjects of ridicule. ^.^ :p

OH and Tom Cruise would've been a wee bit saner.
