I'm no expert, but I think the problems are the Kurdish national consciousness wasn't strong yet, and the Kurdish clans were fierce rivals, and wouldn't unite easily.

Another problem is that there are several Kurdish languages, not one, something that still today cause issues of disunity among Kurds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdish_languages

Some Kurdish experiments actually existed: The Republic of Mahabad in Iranian Kurdistan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Mahabad (however they seemed to have been after autonomy, not independence). These seem to have been two shortlived kingdoms of Kurdistan.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Kurdistan
and finally there was a British backed short lived Republic of Ararat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ararat

However none of these can be seen as a unified ethnic Kurdish revolt. Even these attempts were more attempts to secure local autonomy, or some small private warlord nation for the founder.
