Kruschev stays in power.

How can Kruschev stay in power in the USSR? Some people say the Cuban Missile Crisis had alot to do with his removal, this combined with the JFK assassination led to his down fall.

Or was it simply because the ( limited ) reforms he made weren't exactly appreciated by the Party?

A mixture, he made changes and got nothing for it, most many of his pet schemes e.g. Virgin Lands were failures and that's why he got dumped. If he had come out of the Cuban Missile Crisis smelling of Roses, or had another big success he would have had a lot more political capital and probably would have stayed on.

That difficult

Not only the Cuba Missile Crisis, but his disorganizing the Soviet economy, especially in the agricultural sector was Nikita Khrushchev Doom !

He start a chaotic Program to cultivate Maize (corn) in USSR
in that Time was saying "Dont let Khrushchev to Moon he will plant Maize there too!"

the key to Khrushchev stay in Power lies in Poltiburo

Pro-Khrushchev member Nikolai Beljajew und Alexei Kiritschenko lost in Mai 1960 there seat
replace by Nikolai Podgorny and Dmitri Poljanski (who played a roll in his downfall)

and USSR number 2 Frol Koslow began in 1961 to chance to Ruels of election for Politburo members
more Allies like Nikolai Ignatow, Ekaterina Furzewa, Awerki Aristow, Nuritdin Muchitdinow lost in October 1961 there Seat in Politburo
to make thing worst Frol Koslow get Ill (stroke) and Leonid Breschnew take the Place of Number 2 of USSR

in 14. October 1964 Michail Suslow, Leonid Breschnew, Alexei Kossygin, Anastas Mikojan and Dmitri Poljanski
start the process to kick Khrushchev out of Power

so to kep Khrushchev in Place, Frol Koslow muss have his stroke bevor October 1961.
so in on 14 October 1964 Nikita Khrushchev, Nikolai Ignatow, Ekaterina Furzewa, Awerki Aristow, Nuritdin Muchitdinow
kick Michail Suslow, Leonid Breschnew, Alexei Kossygin, Anastas Mikojan and Dmitri Poljanski out of the Politburo

but Nikita Khrushchev still in power = glasnost , perestroika, uskoreniye ? wat to Prag Spring of 1968 ?

one thing sure is Space Program and Moonrace will be in hand of Vladimir Nikolayevich Chelomei ! not Sergey Korolyov
no Soyuz-Saljut but Almas-TKS no N-1 but UR-500 to UR-700
if you want more info on this Space system can i post then here ? or in New Thread ??

I read that Leonid Brezhnev enjoyed being the President (Chairman of the Supreme Presidium) and that he was rather reluctant to become the heir apparent in the Summer of 1964. Prior to that it was speculated that Khrushchev successor would be either Podgornyy or Brezhnev. My assumption is that Khrushchev believed Brezhnev would remain loyal. However, by getting closer to the members of the Presidium (aka Politburo), Brezhnev easily fell under the influence of Mikhail Suslov and, to a lesser degree, Nikolay Podgornyy and Aleksey Kosygin who agreed to overthrow Khrushchev and establish Brezhnev as the General Secretary. It seems that Brezhnev really enjoyed the pomposity of leadership rather than taking important decisions so he was a little angry at Khrushchev for promoting him to the post of second Secretary (heir apparent).

Maybe Khrushchev could have stayed longer if he kept Brezhnev President and didn't state his desire to retire in April 1964 (which he postponed, disenchanting the hardliner Suslov).

I don't think that Kruschev was a Gorby when it comes to Glasnost & Perestroika, he saw the weaknesses of the Soviet system and wanted to change that. But he was cut down before he could do anything.

I think that Kruschev would act pretty harsh during the Prague Spring. He did the same thing in Hungary, so why not Prague?

And yeah, you can post that other stuff, if you want.

That's sounds really interesting. TKS was much more advanced than soyuz, Leonov called the ship "our Apollo" ...

If Kruschev stays and does several reforms the old guard doesn't like he might feel he's forced to come down really hard on the Czechs to keep his credentials, like Deng Xiaopheng was in OTL.

He was kicked outta office because he raised tensions between the USSR and the USA. Now what if it's Kenndy that backs down?

Krutchev died in 1972. If he stay in power, can he "survive" more years, let's say until 1978 or so ? I need him to back Chelomei...

There is a case for imagining that Kruchev might have done things differently and reduced Cold War tensions. It is based on his having been trully scared by the Cuba Crisis.

JFK made some fairly friendly speeches in the summer of 1963.

Now supposed Nikita had managed to defeat the coup and JFK had been hit but survived without brain damage on November 22nd...

It is possible that arms on both sides might be negotiated down.

Khruscheve must have understood the damage that Hungary did to the Soviet image. That MIGHT cause him to take a different view of the Prague Spring, but equally it might not.
