Kruschev Remains Soviet Leader Until He Dies?

In the tradition of Lenin, mad Stallin, Brezhniev, Chernenko and Andropov, what if Nikita remained as Soviet leader until he died. Would we see an early Glasnost and periostroika. ( Sorry about any mispellings )? BTW why was he dumped?

The failure of the Virgin Lands program I think was a big issue.

He apparently didn't want to fight for power and even said his contribution to the Soviet system was setting the precedent of peacefully removing a leader.

So unless you give him a really good reason to want to hold onto his position, he's not going to fight any attempt to get rid of him.

Yup. Khrushchev made agricultural policy one of his foremost priorities. In typical soviet fashion it was handled in equal parts of tragedy and farce.

Not only did the Virgin Land's campaign destroy much of the long term agricultural viability of Siberia's marginal farmlands, Khrushchev strongly encouraged monocrop cotton cultivation in central asia, and bungled the widespread indroduction of corn as animal fodder in the Ukraine.
