Kolwezi 1978/African Dien Bien Phu

In 1978, France air dropped its 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment into Kolwezi (a province of Zaire) to stop terrorists from attacking European technicians and their families. The guerillas were a rabble and it seems far fetched they could best the cream of the Foreign Legion. But what if by some fluke (bad drop) causes the rebels manage to hold off the legionairres.

Another chapter in the illustrious battle record of the Legion. A second, stronger drop is made and things get sorted out as intended. OTL carries on. The French take their business in Africa quite seriously. Thank goodness. Wouldn't want to see them having enough time on their hands to be able to start playing stupid neo-colonial games in Quebec.

I agree. If its a rabble, then a disaster caused by circumstances is just likely to bring a larger and more forceful response
