I initially wanted to put music in it but I can’t get the video to import into an editing program...
Well there are tutorials i’m sure...
Here’s the improved version. It’s also a great way to show off my horrible taste in music
Is anyone interested in some more actual warlord atlas based off this?
Sure. The video and the still maps in the same vein as omniatlas would be great (and here you were thinking people might want either one or the other weren't you?)
Partly it’s that fact that the last one was quite a bit ago and I was beginning to mentally file it under the black hole of “unfinished projects”.
But yeah, the atlas maps seemed to be getting less interest. I’ll try and make some more though. At least finding sources and squinting at campaign texts won’t be a problem anymore.
Oh but there was quite a bit of interest in them. Maybe people weren't responding, but then there's such an element of perfection in them that it's hard to respond rather than to sit back and enjoy. I for one subscribed to this thread just to ensure I would see the latest in the atlas.
That means a lot. Thanks.
@Admiral A. Kolchak with any luck, maybe you could become the next Ollie Bye or Emperor Tigerstar. Cause those are good quality maps!
One tip, just use Kevin MacLeod/Any royalty-free music labeled "Dramatic", "Thrilling", etc and everyone will like you!
First, though, let's let the detailed maps catch up with the EmperorTigerstar-styled ones:
Battle of Tai'erzhuang:
A - Tokyo calls for a one-year truce, but its commands are ignored by Japanese field armies (January 1938)
B - Japanese begin attacks into northern Honan (16 Feb 1938)
C - Japanese begin an offensive to take Xuzhou and encircle most of the Chinese Army (Mar 1938)
D - The leader of Kwangsi defeats the Japanese at Tai’erzhuang, delaying the link up of the two Japanese armies and allowing Chinese troops to escape from the encirclement.
Yellow River Flood
A - Japanese take Xuzhou, but their encirclement of even the remaining Chinese troops is ineffective (1 May 1938)
B - Nationalists break the Yellow River dykes above Kaifeng, causing a massive flood the halts the Japanese advance (May-June 1938)
C - Japanese capture Kaifeng (6 May 1938)
Battle of Wuhan Begins
A - Chinese begin guerrilla operations behind Japanese lines (10 May 1938)
B - Amoy Operation (12 June 1938)
C - Japanese begin advancing up the Yangtze, beginning the Battle of Wuhan (16 June 1938)
Just checking, but should this be behind Japanese lines?
Fall of Wuhan
A - Japanese offensive into Jiangxi (Aug 1938)
B - Japanese offensive against Nanchang defeated (11 Oct 1938)
C - Japanese landing in Guangzhou (21 Oct 1938)
D - Japanese troops capture Wuhan; Chinese government moves to Chongqing (27 Oct 1938)
Battle of Nanchang
A - Yan Xishan begins guerrilla operations from Qixian (Nov 1938)
B - Hainan Operation (11 Feb 1939)
C - Japanese troops capture Nanchang (27 March 1939)
A - Japanese advance on Zaoyang (20 Apr 1939)
B - Nomonhan Incident begins over the location of the border between Soviet-backed Mongolia and Japanese-backed Manchukuo (11 May 1939)
C - Japanese defeated at Zaoyang (24 May 1939)
Hats off to you when you reach 1944 because by then the amount of work you would have had to put in....phew!
Last map was the 69th! And the 70th is already done and ready to be released as soon as I have a neat group of three.
Actually, why not?
A - Japanese troops land at Swatow (27 June 1939)
B - Germany, nominally allied to both Japan and China, invades Poland, beginning the Second World War (1 September 1939)
C - Japanese troops launch an offensive against Kwangsi Clique forces defending Changsha (13 September 1939)
D - Japan and the USSR sign a truce ending the Nomonhan Incident, but the USSR continues to support Nationalist China (15 September 1939)
Also the current China map I'm using is super ugly so here's a WIP of a waaaaaay better one:
Pretty low-effort project, but here's the Xinhai Revolution. I'll get back to the Sino-Japanese War soon.
Nice. Definitely looks more clean now--though IIRC Sichuan was ruled for a short time under Yin Changheng's Great Han Sichuan Military Government (27/11/11 - 2/2/12)
And oh yeah I should leave a subscription.
It's interesting to see how the Sino-Japanese War lines up with World War II. To that end, I've decided to put together this, using Omniatlas and my own work:
"Invasion of Poland" 16 September 1939
"Winter War" 11 March 1940
"Invasion of Denmark and Norway" 24 April 1940
"Blitzkrieg in the West" 25 May 1940
"Fall of France" 21 June 1940
*Battle of Zaoyi*
"Battle of Britain" 7 September 1940
*Hundred Regiments Campaign*
"Italian Offensives" 3 November 1940
*Occupation of Northern Indo-China; Hundred Regiments Campaign*
"Italian Fiascos" 26 February 1941
*Franco-Thai War; Battle of Southern Henan*
"Germany in the Mediterranean" 16 April 1941
*Franco-Thai War; Battle of Shanggao*
"Eve of Barbarossa" 21 June 1941
*No major actions*
Okay, so I now have a highly superior basemap and I’ve accumulated a lot of new sources and references since I begin the project. So I’m considering starting again from the beginning and updating everything, since a lot of the maps I’ve posted so far, specifically the older ones, are highly inaccurate, and let’s be honest the map I was using was disgusting.
So if anyone wants it I’ll open up a poll and you can vote on whether I’ll continue to 1958 and then redo the maps, or concentrate on redoing them now.
