Kingdom of Livonia

What Frederick II of Denmark had supported his brother Magnus of Holstein in becoming King of Livland maybe against getting the Bishopric of Ösel-Wiek and the Bishopric of Courland.

Denmark had no intentions in the Baltic states at this time.
Valdemar IV had succeeded in getting rid of Estonia even if he didn't de facto possess it and get money in return!
A place to put Magnus away was needed as he and Frederick, his older brother didn't get along well.

You propably not see Frederick support Magnus as he was busy securing protestantism in Denmark by alliances in especially Northen Germany.

Suggestion:
Have a look at Dansk Udenrigspolitisk Historie series. Its quite informative, long yes, but informative to an astonishing degree. Should be in your local library. ;)

Thank you Warrior.

It rather sad, it would make perfect sense, Denmark would weaken Swedens position in the East, get two stable allies toward Sweden and get two Bishopics/Duchies which could be be given to younger princes instead of territorium in Schleswig-Holstein.

Danish problem in the area was too many too well established players at this time.
In the early 1200's church support was much sought for and going on crusade in the Baltic's were one way to get such. But nobody wanted to use the required resources to establish permanent Danish presence in the area. In the end Danish part of Estonia, Harrien and Wirland was settled by Germans - de jure Danish vassals, de facto independent.

There was just so much space in the Danish Empire to be filled - why bother going to Estonia?

The two stable allies I mentioned would be Livonia and Russia, not the two bichopics, and I don't think it would be a permanent Danish presence just a little support to Magnus so he could keep the Swedes and Poles out, and Russia would be his primary supporter.

More likely Livonia would be viewed as subject, not as ally by Russia (Ivan the Terrible claimed that it was his patrimony).

The Russians was too unstable and the Livonians didn't care for having another player in the area.
The neglegible Danish interest was in competition with Russians, Livonians, German Order, Poles and Swedes who all wanted control of the region.
I don't think Magnus would be able to rely on the Russians or anybody else to be a stable ally in the region.
